Said The Whale formed in 2007 as a collaboration between songwriters Ben Worcester and Tyler Bancroft. The pair's debut EP, Taking Abalonia, featured sunny west coast indie pop, with breezy harmonies, shimmering guitars, and lyrical tributes to their home city of Vancouver. In 2008, the album was rereleased as Howe Sounds/Talking Abalonia, featuring seven additional tracks that stretched the band's stylistic palate to include bubblegum folk "The Light Is You", thundering hard rock "Last Tree Standing" and gentle ukulele ballads "The Real of It".

After several personnel changes, the group settled upon a five-piece lineup that included bassist Peter Carruthers, drummer Spencer Schoening, and keyboardist Jaycelyn Brown. The quintet embarked upon a rigorous touring schedule, crossing Canada numerous times and landing high profile gigs at V-Fest 2008 in Calgary and the nationally televised Canada Day celebration on Parliament Hill.

The group is now poised to take the next step with the release of its latest single, "Camilo (The Magician)." With its gritty powerchords and sunny powerpop chorus, the single has already been dubbed the "song of the summer" by Grant Lawrence of CBC Radio 3. Produced by Howard Redekopp (Tegan and Sara, The New Pornographers, Mother Mother) and Tom Dobrzanski (Hey Ocean!, The Zolas), it will appear on the group's sophomore album, Islands Disappear, due for release on October 13 via Upper Management/EMI. Unlike the west coast focus of previous releases, the new album draws on the experience of driving across Canada, from the van breaking down in Manitoba "Dear Elkhorn" to camping in Alberta "Emerald Lake, AB". With stylistic forays that include backwoods folk "False Creek Change" and danceable ukulele/glockenspiel rave-ups "Goodnight Moon", it's the sound of a band coming into its own, delivering on the promise of its early recordings.

Eimog, Ghosts Of The Land, This City Defects, Man Your Horse

Eimog are an instrumental band formed in autumn 2005 in Agrigento, Italy. Since their first live appearances, Eimog have been steadily attracting the attention of both audience and critics by staging awe-inspiring, emotionally transcendent atmospheric performances.
In 2009 the band scheduled some studio time to rehearse and record their first album “Scenario ”.
Six tracks, 57mins of intimate, classically influenced post-rock, an artistic and emotional evolution of the background and sensibility of each member of the band. Additional strings were recorded during the studio sessions, played by Jascha Parisi (cello) and Sarah Diana (violin). The album was recorded at Vertigo Studio in Siracusa, under the supervision of Toti Valente (Albanopower), and mastered in October 2009 at Nautilus Studio , Milan. In August 2009 the band delighted their fans by playing the new unreleased album in its entirety in their hometown, Agrigento, The breathtaking natural set of the Kolymbetra’s Gardens , inside the famous Valle dei Templi , was booked for the special occasion. Both the timeless location and the music of the band contributed to a successful night. The show was sold out.

Ghosts of the Land is an instrumental quartet from Calgary. Started in October 2008 by Chris & Craig Chamberlain, the aim of the group is to discover original soundscapes using innovative instruments. Shunning prescribed chord progressions, textbook beats and showy solos, the brothers cultivate organic synergy in their music. The idea attracted Evan Freeman and David Lynch, who now round out the lineup. While 'post-rock' or 'post-punk' labels are tempting to apply to Ghosts, they prefer to describe their sound as 'instrumental ghost-rock.' The phrase hints at their influences (Do Make Say Think, Tortoise, Sonic Youth) while indicating a desire to explore unique territory. Live performances are engaging and hypnotic, weaving a collaborative sonic tapestry and encouraging audience perplexity.

Touted as an ongoing study in compositional disparity, This City Defects tempers their groove-heavy riffs with provocatively progressive instrumental flourishes. Parlaying sonic dissonance into the unlikely concord of perpendicular narratives, the fiery Calgary-based quintet pride themselves on bringing a new dimension to their municipality's typical straight-up rock scene -Christine Leonard (Beatroute Magazine)

With a commitment to memorable, high-energy live performances, man your horse is a indie-math rock outfit drawing inspiration from anyone whose ever truly enjoyed what they are doing, as well as musical compositions ranging from Don Caballero to Tom Waits. Playing fast and slow, loud and soft and crafting songs influenced by the world around them, man your horse invites you to mount what moves you and ride like the wind.
